A 37-year-old drug dealer and disqualified driver has been jailed after trying to evade police during a dangerous chase in Peterborough.

Anton Oakley was discovered parked in a black Vauxhall Astra in Dogsthorpe at about 11pm on the 19th of June. Officers noticed a woman approach his car before walking away, prompting suspicion.

The police from the Neighbourhood Support Team decided to follow Oakley, turning on their vehicle's blue lights.

While Oakley initially stopped, he sped off when an officer approached his car.

During the brief chase, Oakley drove dangerously before halting outside Tilton Court, where he exited the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot.

Police officers pursued and arrested him nearby.

Upon searching Oakley, officers found various items including a mobile phone, £460 in cash, and a small amount of crack cocaine hidden in his sock.

Further analysis of Oakley's mobile phone revealed evidence consistent with the supply of pregabalin, a Class C drug.

A subsequent search of a property linked to Oakley in Dogsthorpe uncovered weapons including nunchucks and a mace.

At Cambridge Crown Court on Monday, Oakley, whose address is unknown, admitted to multiple charges. These included being concerned in the supply of a Class C drug, dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance, two counts of possessing an offensive weapon in a private place, and possession of crack cocaine.

He received a 17-month jail sentence and was disqualified from driving for two years and 262 days.

DC Joshua Crown from Cambridgeshire Police said: “Oakley knew he was in the wrong, but his attempts to get away from officers were always going to be futile.

“It’s lucky nobody was injured during the short pursuit where he drove dangerously as he tried to evade arrest.

“I’m pleased he was apprehended and has now been jailed.”
