A dangerous driver, who led police on a high-speed pursuit in Peterborough, has been disqualified.

Police saw Yaser Faruk, 33, travelling at speed in Mayors Walk, West Town, at about 2.40am on Wednesday 19 November.

Faruk refused to stop and continued onto Almoners Lane, through to Ledbury Road, Netherton. He reached 80mph in a 30mph zone, ignoring traffic signs and driving on the wrong side of the road.

Officers lost sight of Faruk but caught up with him again in Atherstone Avenue, Westwood, about 20 minutes later, and he again refused to pull over.

Faruk drove around residential streets, ignoring “no entry” signs, and became airborne going over speed bumps at high speed in Gladstone Street, Millfield, causing his rear number plate to fall off.

Police caught up with Faruk and stopped him in Woodfield Road, West Town, where he was arrested.

Faruk, of Grange Road, West Town, Peterborough, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving whilst disqualified and driving without a licence at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (13 January). He was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years, disqualified from driving for two years and ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.

PC Matt Panks, who investigated, said: “Faruk’s reckless driving posed a serious risk to members of the public and other road users.

“Thankfully we were able to stop him, and he will now spend a significant amount of time off the roads."
