Driver who rammed police car in Peterborough jailed
He was found to be over twice the legal alcohol limit
A man from Peterborough has been sentenced to 13 months in prison after a dangerous attempt to escape police ended in him crashing into a police car.
28 year old Aaron Readman was spotted driving his blue BMW erratically in Stanground, Peterborough around 7.30pm on the 6th of December.
The police intercepted him near his home in Hardwick about an hour later.
Readman tried to flee, reaching speeds of up to 85mph in a 60mph zone, ignoring hazards, and braking harshly.
The chase ended when Readman crashed into the front of a police car before driving away.
Officers later discovered the BMW crashed into a fence at Readman's home in The Pastures, where they found him hiding in a nearby shed.
A roadside breath test showed Readman was over twice the legal alcohol limit.
At Cambridge Crown Court on 12th March, Readman pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving without a licence, driving without insurance, drink driving, and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
He was disqualified from driving for three years and six months.
PC Ben Patten, who investigated, said: “Readman drove extremely dangerously, hit speeds well above the legal limit, and rammed a police vehicle.
“His actions demonstrated a complete disregard for the law and safety of others. Thanks to the swift response by officers, he was arrested and has now been held accountable for his actions.”
