More than 100 drink-drug drive arrests for second year running in Cambridgeshire
The force has seen a jump in arrests in 2025 than the year before
More people were arrested for drink and drug driving by Cambridgeshire Police last month than the same time in 2024.
December 2025 was perhaps one of the busiest for the force, with 117 arrests being made compared to 104 in the same month two years ago.
While last year, 36 people including 12 motorcyclists died on the county's roads with more than 350 people seriously injured.
"You can look at it both ways; a success in terms of there being more arrests, or not in terms of more drink and drug drivers on the road," PC Adrian Boddington, casualty reduction officer at Cambridgeshire Police, said.
"It's unfortunate people are continuing to take these risks that are causing harm to other people."
As part of its month-long campaign, officers carried out roadside checks across the county as 43 pubs and venues signed up to the force's 'I'm DES' scheme, where those venues taking part give free or discounted soft drinks to designated drivers.
38 deaths a year on county's roads
The force said the number of fatalities in 2025 was down by four on the year before, while in the last 12 months, more people were seriously hurt than in 2024.
In Cambridgeshire, there is an average of 38 deaths on the roads per year.
Mr Boddington said many of the collisions were avoidable and urged the public to make a resolution to take responsibility and help reduce collisions this year.
"I don't think we can ever think it's (making no drink and drug driving arrests) going to be impossible," he added.
"If you've got a conscience, that's going to affect you and it could change the course of your life.
"Even if you've injured yourself, you injure somebody else, that's what you need to be thinking about.
"I'm not going to give up trying to provide education to people, to get that message out there, so make those right decisions and you should keep people safer."
