Police in Cambridgeshire are rolling out a new campaign aimed at tackling retail crime, anti-social behaviour, and safety after dark in busy town and city centres.

Officers are joining forces with partner agencies and local authorities, focusing on organised shop theft, abuse against retail workers, persistent street crime, and keeping people safe at night.

The campaign builds on the Safer Streets Summer initiative, which saw more patrols, arrests for drug offences, enforcement of protection orders, and outreach with local businesses.

Chief Inspector Steve Ashton says:

“This campaign continues the momentum gained from the Safer Streets Summer initiative earlier this year. We were really pleased with the results of that campaign, making a tangible difference to town and city centres with increased patrols and partnership working on key issues."

"With increased use of city and town centres throughout December, it’s important we’re doing all we can on these key areas to make our streets even safer.”

Police and Crime Commissioner Darryl Preston adds:

“Tackling crime affecting our town and city centres is a key priority within my Police and Crime Plan therefore I welcome this additional focus which will help keep people safe as they go about their daily business.”

The ‘Winter of Action’ campaign runs until thirty-first January.
