A prolific shoplifter who stole thousands of pounds worth of goods from stores across Cambridge will spend Christmas behind bars after being sentenced to two years and eight months in prison.

Daniel Robinson, 41, carried out 21 thefts between August and November, targeting Sainsbury’s, Co-op, Tesco, and high-end stores like Hugo Boss and David Clulow. The stolen items ranged from sunglasses and designer clothing to olive oil, alcohol, meat, and laundry products.

Robinson, of no fixed address, was sentenced at Cambridge Crown Court on 4th December 2025 after pleading guilty to shoplifting, breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO), fraud by false representation, and vehicle interference.

In addition to his prison sentence, Robinson was issued a 10-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) banning him from entering several Cambridge stores, including Co-op, Sainsbury’s, Flannels, Teversham BP, and David Clulow opticians.

The order also prohibits him from passing the threshold of anyone’s driveway without permission or touching or entering any vehicle without the owner’s consent.

PC Bradleigh Bucknell, from the Spree Offender Team, highlighted the disruption Robinson caused to businesses across the city:

“Robinson has caused significant disruption and financial loss to businesses across the city.

“Our team worked tirelessly to gather evidence and bring him to justice, and this sentence sends a clear message that persistent offending will not be tolerated.”

Robinson’s thefts have left a trail of damage across Cambridge, but his sentencing marks firm action in tackling repeat offenders.
