B1040 near Peterborough closed after lorry overturns
Road conditions have been deemed unsafe following the accident
A section of the B1040 near Peterborough will remain closed until around Tuesday (13th January) lunchtime after a lorry overturned and ended up in a ditch on Monday afternoon, police have said.
The incident happened between Thorney and Whittlesey, closing the road between Toneham Lane and North Side.
While the HGV has been removed, Cambridgeshire Police stated that "due to the condition of the road surface," the stretch of the B1040 will remain shut. Officers said the road is covered in wet mud, making it slippery and unsafe for drivers.
The police explained that the road will need to be thoroughly cleaned and assessed for safety before reopening, with expectations that this will not happen until lunchtime on Tuesday.
Cambridgeshire Police shared updates on their Facebook page, noting: "For the safety of road users, the decision has been made to keep the road closed until the road can be cleaned properly."
Motorists are advised to plan alternative routes until the road is deemed safe for travel.
