A council has invited community groups to apply for available project funding.

After a “successful” first round earlier this year, Rutland County Council is once again encouraging groups to apply to its Small Grants Programme, through which the council will help pay for projects, which seek to strengthen communities.

Eligible projects must be non-profit, with a demonstrable goal of using the funding, available in grants of between £500 and £2,000, to “reduce loneliness and social isolation”, “strengthen volunteer networks” and “improve access to health and wellbeing activities”.

Council portfolio holder for children and families, Councillor Tim Smith, said: “Rutland’s community groups and volunteers play a vital role to support the wellbeing of our residents, and the character of our communities.

“Following the positive response to our Small Grants Programme earlier this year, we’re pleased to make the remaining funding available to support even more local projects.

“Whether it’s investing in new equipment, improving community spaces, or taking forward and enhancing projects that will help local communities to grow, these grants are designed to make a real difference. I would encourage all eligible local groups to take a look at the scheme and apply if they think it could help them.”

Out of 32 first-round applications, 27 successfully acquired grants of between £700 and £2000. Recipients of the funding included sports clubs, garden clubs, community cafes and village halls.

The application window for this latest round will remain open until August 26.
