A youth club in Peterborough says creating a safe space for young people is helping to tackle anti-social behaviour.

It's after over 650 incidents of this crime were recorded in the last year in the city centre.

This makes it the second most common crime in the city centre from Apr 2024 to Mar 2025.

YMCA Youth Cresset aims to be a safe space for young people to engage in positive activities, socialise, and build new skills.

They say that for young people, performing arts can positively impact their education, personal development and mental wellbeing.

We are doing our best to deliver what they need

Sarah Saxby from the Youth Cresset in Peterborough said:

"We've seen a big trickle off in that negative behaviour."

"Everything we do and run is based on young people's feedback and suggestions, and it just shows them that we are doing our best to deliver what they need."

"I think it does help. It's not the only answer; it needs to be a combined effort that needs to happen from every institution, but it's a start."
