A Peterborough hospice has been telling us it's feeling the squeeze as costs continue to increase.

Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice provides expert care for seriously ill people but budgets are being stretched.

Now, the charity is looking for more donations so it can continue their work.

One way it's looking to fundraise is by offering to collect and recycle Christmas trees.

"This means fewer people will face death alone"

Last year's Treecycling collection funded 4000 hours of expert care.

As well as this, 7,199 trees across the UK were saved from landfill.

Community funding manager, Leonie Hatcher, said:

"I think it's fantastic and such an important scheme to get involved with.

"This means fewer patients need to face death alone.

"It's like a two-pronged approach. It's helping landfill and helping us to be sustainable, but also it's helping us to raise that money that we so desperately need.

"The cost of providing an hour of care has increased from £21 to £25 per hour.

"This means we need urgent support so we can be there for as many people as possible in their end of life."

"We need urgent support"

Volunteers will be collecting trees in Peterborough from Thursday 9th January to Sunday 12th January 2025.

£12.50 could help fund a home visit from a Sue Ryder Nurse.

£25 could help fund one of the charities specialist nurses.

£65 could help fund a therapy session for a seriously ill patient.

£100 could fund four hours of expert care and compassion.
