20-year-old banned from driving in Peterborough for using counterfeit licence
A man from Greater London was arrested in Peterborough city centre last year
A 20-year-old man from Greater London has been banned from driving for six months after being caught in Peterborough with a counterfeit driving licence.
Alex Rostas was arrested by neighbourhood officers in Priestgate, Peterborough city centre, last June after his car was flagged on ANPR as being linked to offences in London and surrounding areas.
Police suspected Rostas had a fake Romanian driving licence, which was later confirmed by the National Document Fraud Unit.
Rostas appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (3rd February), where he admitted to driving without a licence and possessing a counterfeit driving licence for use in fraud.
In addition to the driving ban, he was ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid work.
PC Kristian Bennett, who investigated the case, commented on the importance of acting on suspicions to identify fraudulent documents.
