A Worcestershire man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after causing the death of a three-week-old baby in a crash.

40-year-old Craig Nunn of Sandy Lane in Stourport, initially denied killing Harley Thomas Wilkinson in a crash on the A451 between Kidderminster and Stourport just after midnight on October 26 last year.

He changed his plea at Worcester Crown Court last month (2 April), pleading guilty to one count of causing death by dangerous driving, one count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and one count of driving with a specified drug above the specified limit.

The fatal crash involved Nunn's black Ford Focus and a black Suzuki Vitara, West Mercia Police said, with the baby in the Suzuki pronounced dead at the scene.

Two occupants in the Suzuki, a man and a woman in their 20s, were taken to hospital for treatment.

It all happened when Nunn went through a red light and collided with a car carrying baby Harley and his parents.

Not only was Nunn driving at over 90mph immediately before the collision, he was also found to be under the influence of amphetamines.

Harley, who was just three weeks and six days old, tragically died at the scene. His father suffered serious injuries including spinal fractures.

An investigation was launched immediately and Nunn was charged the following day.

'An innocent baby lost his life'

Detective Sergeant Liam Bennett, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “It’s difficult to find the words to express just how tragic this incident was. An innocent baby lost his life and two parents were left utterly devastated, while also having to deal with the terrible physical injuries one of them suffered as a result of the collision.

“I’m glad that the case has concluded today, and that Nunn will now face the consequences of the reckless decisions he made that night which destroyed so many lives.”

In addition to the driving offences, Nunn was also sentenced to two months in prison for possession of an imitation firearm and two counts of possession of a knife or bladed article in a public place. He pleaded guilty to these offences in April 2025 after an imitation firearm, an axe and a knife were discovered in his car during the investigation into the collision. This sentence will be served concurrently.
