The chairman of Worcester Warriors Supporters Trust says it's amazing news the club is set to return to the pitch.

Worcester Warriors confirmed yesterday (Thursday 3rd April) they would be joining the revamped second tier of English rugby union for the 2025/26 season.

They formally applied for a place in the league back in November.

Warriors played their last match back on 24 September 2022 at Sixways, beating Newcastle Falcons 39-5 before falling into administration just days later.

Marcus Mulcahy says it's been a long wait but it's been worth it.

"It's amazing to finally be in this position," he said.

"The supporters trust has been around nearly two years now so we've been living and breathing it, it has been agonising for all supporters.

"Imagine this place at that first home match, seeing the team running out, it'll just be a wall of noise and it'll be fantastic."

The new Championship will be made up of 14 teams and will include all 12 of the current clubs in the league, along with Worcester Warriors and a promoted National League 1 club.

Owner of the club Christopher Holland says it's been a real team effort to bring the team back and it's taken a lot of hard work.

He said: "We are really pleased to be bringing rugby back to Worcester and have made significant progress in stabilising the Sixways business as well as successfully navigating the detailed application process for entry of the club into the second tier of professional rugby in England.

"After careful consideration we chose to make the application to the new league under the name Worcester Warriors to preserve its history and legacy. As a result, we are required to settle rugby creditors and acknowledge and fully own this process and the responsibility that comes with it.

"We now enter a defined period in which to provide financial guarantees, and to identify, validate and agree all inherited rugby creditors. The completion of this process is the key to success and requires the collective support of all involved. We are committed to resolving this quickly."

Plans to increase the capacity of the ground from 11,500 to 12,750, along with an on-site 120 bed hotel aimed at boosting the economy and tourism were also submitted by owners Junction 6 Limited last December.

They'll now focus on putting together a team ahead of the new season.
