Worcester Cathedral has recorded its highest numbers yet over its Christmas tree festival, the director of events has said.

The month-long display ran from the 4 December up until the 6 January and saw it also have its largest total of trees on show yet with 250 of them.

Director of events and operations Sam Poursain had previously confirmed it had seen around "60 something thousand visitors" at the last one.

He's now stated attendance had risen this time around and it had been a "really successful festive period and Christmas tree festival", with it now all packed away and focus onto doing it all over again later this year.

"In all sorts of ways it was a record-breaking year for us, both visitor numbers but also the size of the expansion of the festival," he said.

"At times it was manic, there were just lots of people around, but it was a privilege to host.

"We had over 75,000 visitors, which is definitely up from last year, perhaps up on around about 10,000, which is where we'd hoped to be with the increase of the festival."

Mr Poursain also added that Birch Hill Dog Rescue's Christmas tree received the highest votes to be crowned the public's favourite one overall.
