West Mercia Police initiative aiming to help victims of domestic abuse with access to essential items
The force have created 100 'grab bags' which can be handed out to people who have fled their homes because of domestic abuse
An initiative designed to help victims of domestic abuse who have fled their home get the essential hygiene products they need has been rolled out by West Mercia Police.
The force have created 'grab bags' which consist of items such as toothpaste, deodorant and shampoo and given them to four authorities across the region.
Also included are night clothes and socks, with 100 been split equally between Herefordshire County Council, Shropshire Council, Telford & Wrekin Council, and Worcestershire County Council.
Inspector Jodie Davies has led the project and said the reason behind doing it was because those that are escaping these settings may leave with nothing.
"People leave at a moment's notice, they can leave without anything at all, generally with just the clothes on their back," she said.
"So things like toiletries that we all take for granted just won't be with them at that time, so we try and put something together that covers all of that so people can have a shower, they've got toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoos, all of those kind of things, as well as some nightwear in case they haven't got any of those things.
"Just the essentials that you would expect to have in day-to-day living that these people potentially wouldn't have left with."
