Warwickshire County Council are warning that fake QR codes have been spotted in car parks in and around Warwick.

The warning comes after a similar set of reports in Leamington, with those scanning the codes sending people to bogus sites instead.

The authority are cautioning motorists that any QR or barcodes affixed onto their machines have not derived from Warwickshire County Council.

Their Pay and Display machines take cash payments and they provide the RingGo parking App to enable drivers to pay for their parking.

On social media, council bosses said: "Fake QR codes spotted on Pay & Display machines in Warwick!

"Do NOT scan any QR/barcodes on machines — they’re not from Warwickshire County Council.

"Use cash or the official RingGo app to pay for parking.

"Stay alert & spread the word!"
