A park in Worcester that's gone without a name since it was first created is now set to finally get one.

The area, which is situated on land between Hawkwood Crescent and Oldbury Road, has been described as "a popular destination for generations" but was never actually given a title.

Worcester City Council has joined forces with the Friends of Laugherne Brook Local Nature Reserve and worked with children at nearby Oldbury Park Primary School to come up with a list of six potential names for the park, with people now being asked to decide on which one,

Councillor Zoe Cookson, chair of the city council’s environment committee, said: “I think a lot of people will be amazed to learn that this much-loved and well-used park does not currently have a name.

"Back in the days when it used to have a football pitch it was commonly known as the recreation ground, but the time has come for it to be given a proper title.

“Giving this popular park a name will not only raise its profile, it will also open up new opportunities to attract funding for improvements."

The vote, which is over on the city council's website, closes on Friday 27 March, the list of names are as follows:

  • Ambrose Park
  • Comer Fields Park
  • Coppertops Park
  • Foxwood Park
  • Hawkwood Park
  • Laugherne Park.
