An annual event where staff and students from the University of Worcester perform CPR continuously for 24 hours on a training mannequin has finished.

The CPR marathon has taken place for several years at the university and is organised by its Paramedic Society (Parasoc).

This year's one got underway on Monday morning and finished yesterday (17 March) at 9am on the St John's campus.

"It's amazing to see how the community at the university came together to get us over the line," third year paramedic science student Elvie Weaver said.

"Equally, (seeing) the amount of people who have educated in CPR and the amount of people who've practised as well over the 24 hours."

Along with doing CPR for the time period, the challenge also aims to highlight the importance of knowing the life-saving skill and how to perform it.

Second year paramedic science student Sarah, who delivered the final compressions to take the challenge across the finishing line, said she was glad it was all finished and it was a real team effort.

"It is such a relief because so many people have obviously come and taken part and then now we're finally done," she said.

"It's been very tiring, but the fact that we've got loads of people made it a lot more manageable.

"Then getting through the night was just music, dancing, and then the people coming back at 4 and bringing it up when we were all like on our knees."

The event has raised over £1,000 for two charities, with 60% going to Heartstart Malvern and 40% to Midlands Air Ambulance.
