A number of churches across Herefordshire have been targeted by burglars in recent months - with similar offences also reported in Worcestershire and Shropshire.

Two people have now been arrested after a joint effort between local police and specialist teams.

Officers are asking for help to identify a safe believed to have been stolen - anyone who recognises it is being urged to get in touch.

In a statement, West Mercia Police's Neighbourhood Matters team said: "We have seen a number of burglary offences at Churches across Herefordshire in the past few months.

"These deplorable offences have also been taken place in Worcestershire and Shropshire.

"I am pleased to report that following some excellent teamwork, with the support of our roads policing team and intelligence units, two people have been arrested.

"We are also appealing for your help in identifying the safe shown in the images.

"If you have any thoughts on where it has been taken from please get in touch.

"Thanks for your help and support we really do appreciate it."
