A tree is to see hundreds of lights lit up on it in Worcester this evening in memory and celebration of people's loved ones.

Lights of Love is organised by St Richard's Hospice to create a place of remembrance through the festive season.

The hospice, which has been holding annual Lights of Love events for more than 20 years, is to hold two services at Worcester Cathedral throughout the day at 2:30pm and 7pm, with a procession to St Andrew’s Spire following the second one where the Lights of Love tree will be illuminated.

Campaigns fundraiser Laura Clarke has said they use a banner which runs around the tree to display of all people's loved ones names, usually getting around 2,000 on it, and it always means a lot to those involved.

She said: "Losing a loved one is hard, and for lots of people it's especially difficult around Christmas time.

"The services that we hold at Worcester Cathedral are a warm celebration of loved ones no longer here, they include music and readings and then we invite people to walk down to St Andrew's Spire where the Lights of Love tree will be lit.

"It's a place where people can go and reflect and remember loved ones and he switching on of the it is always emotional."

The display is set to be in place until the 5 January.
