Redditch remembers road traffic victims
A remembrance tree is going up today at Arrow Valley Country Park
People who've lost their lives in accidents and incidents on the roads are being remembered from today in a Redditch park.
A tree of remembrance is going up at Arrow Valley Country Park, close to the boathouse.
Visitors will be able to write tribute to loved ones and hang them on the tree for the next two weeks, with the messages put into a book after the tree comes down.
Redditch Borough Council Leader Cllr Sharon Harvey said, "Along with our partners Rubicon Leisure we are proud to support this initiative in conjunction with the RoadPeace West Midlands and West Mercia Groups.
"The Council is committed to acknowledging the terrible impact which road traffic crashes can have on families, loved ones and victims and this tree can provide a space for people to leave messages of love to all those who are affected."
Managing Director of Rubicon Leisure, which runs the Arrow Valley Visitor Centre, Ben Clawson-Chan said, "Earlier this year we supported the RoadPeace's ‘Peace in the Park’ doves campaign which saw an installation at our centre which proved really popular.
"I am delighted we can continue to highlight the important work of this charity which provides invaluable support to those bereaved or seriously injured following road crashes.”
RoadPeace is the national charity for road crash victims, with groups across the country, including in the West Midlands and West Mercia regions. The charity provides support to those bereaved or seriously injured through road crashes, and campaigns for justice, compassion and support for victims, and to reduce road danger. The work gives a voice to victims and helps create safer communities for everyone.
Justice and Outreach Manager for RoadPeace Lucy Harrison said, "Not only do we remember those who have had their lives taken or forever changed through a road crash, but we want to honour the vital work of emergency services, call for action to prevent further tragedies and support our communities.”

Portfolio Holder for Community Services and Safeguarding Responsibilities, Cllr Monica Stringfellow, said, "By supporting this initiative, the council are showing tremendous support for a road crash charity that are committed to making a real difference to the lives of those affected in our community."
Elsewhere the Palace Theatre, the bandstand, and the fountains in Church Green will be illuminated in purple to mark the event.
