Major train disruption after vehicle strikes a bridge at Cwmbran

All lines are blocked whilst emergency repairs are carried out to the bridge, meaning no trains between Newport and Hereford

There's major disruption to the trains this morning, following a vehicle striking a bridge at Cwmbran.

All lines are blocked whilst emergency repairs are carried out to the bridge.

As a result, trains running between Newport and Hereford will be cancelled until approximately 13:00.

Disruption is expected until 13:00.

Routes affected

Between Hereford and Fishguard Harbour, and between Milford Haven / Carmarthen /Swansea / Cardiff Central and Manchester Piccadilly, and between Cardiff Central and Holyhead.

CrossCountry services between Bristol and Gloucester

West Midlands Railway between Shrewsbury, Birmingham and Crewe

Great western Railway between Bristol Parkway and Bristol Temple Meads

Rail replacement transport

A bus replacement service is in operation between Newport (South Wales) and Hereford in both directions.

Road transport will take longer than rail services.

People are being urged to allow extra time to complete their journey.
