Third Worcester play area has summer revamp work finished
Medway Road joins both Horizon Hub and Ronkswood Hub in being transformed in recent months
A Worcester play area has become the third in the city to re-open after having work done in recent months to upgrade it.
Medway Road's transformation has seen new features such as a wheelchair-accessible roundabout added, a communication board to support non-verbal children and adults, and seating areas installed throughout.
It joins both Horizon Hub and Ronkswood Hub who have also undergone similar revamps this summer, with the pair of them seeing their ones completed last month.
Worcester City Council announced earlier this year in May an investment of £331,000 to carry out the projects, which was being funded through planning-related developer contributions.
They've all been done as part of a wider programme aiming to improve play opportunities for children and young people across the city, known as the Worcester Play Plan.
Councillor Adrian Gregson, chair of Worcester City Council’s place and economic development committee, said: “The transformation of Medway Road play area is another major milestone in our Worcester Play Plan.
“Following the successful refurbishments at Horizon Hub and Ronkswood, we are continuing to invest in high-quality, inclusive play spaces across the city.
“It's fantastic to see residents' feedback reflected in a vibrant new park that can be enjoyed by children of all ages and abilities.”
The work at Medway cost £116,900 in total, with £100,000 funded through planning-related developer contributions and the remaining costs met by the city council itself.
Designs at the three locations were created following feedback from a public consultation earlier this year, where people asked for more inclusive and varied equipment along with improved accessibility and safety surfacing.
