Hereford food bank has said it remains vital for it to be able to keep its support in place for families through the likes of the Easter holidays.

It comes as the two week break is taking place, with the charity confirming it had demand continue to be there from those with children through the first part of the year.

Manager Helen Parker said they were anticipating seeing a spike in demand during the second week of the holidays, but they are prepared as they make sure they plan ahead in advance for this period.

"As soon as we get Christmas over we start thinking, we've got the February half-term as well, but straight away after Christmas we start a shelf ready for Easter," she said.

"We had some lovely donations from local organisations and people for things like Easter eggs, Easter treats.

"Our donations team do store things ready for school holidays, such as snacks, because we appreciate that it's an expensive time for parents, so if we are donated things like that, we tend to save them up for school holidays."

On being able to include Easter eggs into parcels for those it supports, she added: "It's quite important and I think the community recognise that.

"These children might not get an Easter egg or the treats as families really are struggling to make ends meet."
