Second running of Droitwich comedy festival in memory of Rik Mayall set to take place
This year's event gets underway on Friday (29 May) and celebrates Rik Mayall who grew up in the town
The organisers of this year's running of the Rik Mayall Comedy Festival which is set to take place in and around Droitwich have said they're looking forward to it getting underway.
Initially launching last year, the event was created in memory of the comedian and actor Rik Mayall who grew up in the town.
Mayall worked and performed at the Norbury Theatre during his early years and passed away in 2014 at the age of 56.
This time around it's set to take place over nine days, starting this Friday (29 May), with over 300 performances scheduled over the course.
Chair of the festival committee Chris Broad said it's great they can host it for a second consecutive year and he can't wait for it.
It's unbelievable how quickly it's come round," he said.
"It just seems like yesterday we did the last one and the run up to the first one just seemed forever but this one has just come round in a flash.
"I'm really excited for this one, it'll be slightly different, it's slightly bigger, we've got a few different venues, so lots of new venues that haven't done it before, which will add a new feel to it, we've got different things going on outside, so it'll be the same vibe hopefully."
It's set to come to a close on the 6 June.
