Ross-on-Wye officially forms partnership with place in Ukraine
A ceremony was held earlier this week on Wednesday (25 March) where a twinning friendship agreement between the town and Ovruch in Ukraine was signed
A partnership between a Herefordshire town and a place in Ukraine has been formed aiming to celebrate the shared heritage between the two.
Ross-on-Wye town council officially signed a twinning friendship agreement with the area named Ovruch on Wednesday (25 March).
It said it marked the beginning of a long and supportive partnership which aims to "promote cultural understanding, friendship and the celebration of shared heritage between the communities".
A ceremony was held with officials from Ovruch joining online from over in Ukraine, with musical performances happening in both countries along with speeches from the likes of both of the mayors.
On the signing of the agreement, mayor for Ross-on-Wye, Linden Delves, said: "I think the main thing for me is this sort of solidarity between European neighbours.
"Obviously the war in Ukraine is devastating for the country and I think signing this agreement shows a really strong message that we stand with them.
"We tried to find somewhere in Ukraine that was similar to Ross, so I think we've already got agreements with several cities and countries across Europe and Africa and I think this one adds nicely to that complement of places."
