Road closure in Pinvin causing cars to drive on pavement

Roadworks near Pershore have been causing traffic chaos, according to a county councillor.
Dan Boatright-Greene said some people are driving on the pavement “like it’s The Fast and The Furious”.
He said road closures in Main Street, Pinvin, were putting residents at risk because of poor driving.
“How many pedestrians need to be run over in the village before the highways team will take this issue seriously?” asked the Lib Dem councillor.
“The road clearly isn’t closed properly and is leaving residents at risk of poor driving. “Furthermore, why does it currently need to be closed when there is over three metres of road available?”
Cllr Boatright-Greene said the roadworks are causing drivers to illegally turn onto the A44 from Main Street while the pedestrian crossing is green, putting pedestrians further at risk.
“There is no clear signage explaining where a detour back onto the A44 would be, not that there needs to be because no works are being done on this section of road,” he said.
“it is now day three, no-one knows when or where the bus is stopping, we have people confused because they can’t turn left out of the village so they’re turning left onto a green pedestrian light and the gas company just keep moving the mesh fence back after someone decides to drive over a pavement with people on it.
“At the same time the existing road closure leaves more than enough space for vehicles to pass so residents want to know why the council thinks it’s acceptable to send them on an eight-mile detour.”
He said he would be giving the contact details of senior highways offices to villagers if the problems were not sorted soon – “that is of course if I’m not run over trying to get past the supposed closed road as vans take the pavement like they’re in The Fast and The Furious.”
A spokesperson for Worcestershire County Council said: “The works in Main Street, Pinvin are being carried out by Wales & West Utilities as part of a national gas mains replacement programme.
“Following reports that traffic management equipment had been moved, Wales & West Utilities attended the site overnight, reset the layout and introduced additional measures to reinforce the closure.
“Moving equipment creates safety concerns and can delay works. We will continue to monitor the arrangements with Wales & West Utilities.
“Traffic conditions in the area have improved today following the changes made.”
