Major emergency response following "well developed" fire in Redditch
A man in his 50s was taken to hospital following the blaze
A major emergency response has been declared following a fire at a flat in Redditch on Thursday evening (May 22nd).
Officers from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to an incident taking place in a house on Oxhill Close in Redditch just after 7:05pm.
When officers arrived, they found a "severe" fire taking place on the first floor of the house, which was described as a "two-storey residential block".
A number of crews, including some from Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to bring the fire under control.
In total, six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using two hosereel jets were used to tackle the fire from the inside and outside.
The service confirmed that fifty percent of the flat had been destroyed by the blaze, with firefighters working to isolate the gas and electrics at the property.
In a statement, Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said that a man in his 50s had been removed from the property before the fire service arrived at the scene.
The man was eventually transferred to the ambulance service and police, who took him to hospital shortly afterwards; his condition remains unknown.
The incident was closed at 10:55pm provisionally, but officers remained at the property for at least another hour before leaving the scene.
