'Proud' University of Worcester cricket team celebrate national success
The University of Worcester’s men’s cricket team are national champions after they triumphed in the Super 8 Indoor Championship Finals.
The captain of the University of Worcester men's indoors cricket team say it was a proud moment for him and the side being crowned national champions.
After competing in the Super 8 Indoor Championship Finals against Durham University, Bristol University, and the University of East London in the group stages, the team of eight managed to clinch the trophy, beating Bristol in the final.
Over the day, they lost just one of their group stage games in the British Universities and Colleges Sports competition, with their success this time around meaning they went one better than last year where they finished second after losing in the final.
Third year student and captain Ollie Halion says it'll be a moment he'll never forget.
"I think it's finally probably just sinking in for us what we've achieved," he said.
"The whole day was a great experience, it's so different to outdoors as well as it takes so much out of you, a lot of us are still our bodies are still sore but it was all worth it, and now it feels so good to say we're national champions as it's something we might never get to say again.
"It's such a team effort and everyone absolutely did their part and gave everything and I couldn't be any more proud of the team."
