Prison officer and inmate face sentencing after exchanging over 5,000 illicit messages
Jade Morris and Jerome Nunes await sentencing for misconduct and phone offences
A Worcester court has heard that a prison officer exchanged over 5,000 illicit Snapchat messages during an intimate relationship with an inmate at HMP Long Lartin.
Jade Morris, 37, from Holmer, Hereford, pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office and encouraging Jerome Nunes, a convicted drug dealer, to use a prohibited device.
Nunes, 35, previously admitted to possessing and using an unauthorised mobile phone at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court.
Following a cell search in October 2022, one of several phones used to communicate with Morris was recovered.
The investigation revealed numerous WhatsApp messages, files, and Snapchat calls between Morris and Nunes, despite initial denials from Morris.
Prosecutor Cathlyn Orchard stated that deleted material suggested the exchange of sexual images.
Defence arguments for Morris suggest she could receive a suspended sentence, citing no evidence of physical contact or shared explicit photos.
Meanwhile, Nunes, having been released nearly two years ago, now runs a nascent food business and has expressed determination to uphold law-abiding conduct.
Both defendants were remanded in custody overnight and are set for sentencing on Friday.
