Warwickshire police officer accused of stealing to stand trial in 2028
The charges include allegations that he stole items from a property in Redditch
A Warwickshire police officer has pleaded not guilty to three counts of theft, including stealing cash and jewellery during his duties.
Police constable Robert Davies, 49, appeared at Birmingham Crown Court where he denied all charges in connection to alleged thefts during his role as an exhibits officer.
The charges include allegations that Davies stole items from a property in Redditch, Worcestershire, during a drugs raid in November 2023. Among the items allegedly taken were cash, jewellery, and a power tool.
Another charge accuses Davies of stealing £180 in cash, referred to as "belonging to The Crown," in Alcester, Warwickshire, in February 2022.
Davies, who has 21 years of service, was granted bail and is due to face a three-day trial at Birmingham Crown Court from 30th May 2028.
Addressing the court during the hearing, Judge Peter Cooke said, “You were probably led to expect that the trial was going to be a very long way off because of the backlog we are suffering. But it is now fixed for May 2028. You remain on bail in the meantime.”
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) previously issued a statement on the case, noting that the charges stem from an investigation conducted by Warwickshire Police under the direction of its anti-corruption unit.
"The charges relate to the alleged theft of cash and property in the course of his duties," the IOPC said. "An investigation was conducted by Warwickshire Police under the direction of the IOPC's anti-corruption unit, which followed a referral by the force."
