West Mercia Police have confirmed that a crash involving a police car on Worcester Bridge was caused by a 'loose' work laptop.

The incident happened on March 3 just after 8pm when officers were responding to an emergency call.

The force said the laptop became "lodged in the steering column" and the driver "lost ability to steer the vehicle", resulting in it crashing into the Grade II listed bridge.

The matter was reviewed by the force's professional standards department and it has been determined that no misconduct had took place.

The force have said the driver and passenger will received "reflective practise from the driving training team."

In a previous statement a spokesperson for West Mercia Police said:

"Officers were responding to an emergency incident when a loose piece of equipment became lodged in the steering column and the driver lost ability to steer the vehicle. This resulted in a low-speed collision with the wall.

"The matter was reviewed by the Professional Standards Department, and no misconduct was identified however both driver and passenger will receive reflective practice from the driving training team.

"West Mercia Police have engaged our insurers and are working with the local authority to ensure the repairs are completed."
