A Worcestershire village could be set to get a facility used by the likes of bikes and scooters created in it through a new proposal.

Lower Broadheath Parish Council has submitted plans to Malvern Hills District Council to build a pump track on land near the village’s allotments, with funding in the region of £70,000 already secured for the work.

A field off Martley Road has been earmarked, with the parish council now looking to ensure the land has the right permissions for it through the planning application.

The space is currently classed as agricultural land but will need to be changed to recreational use if the scheme is to go ahead.

District councillor Daniel Walton said Lower Broadheath Parish Council has had ambitions to build a pump track for some time, and after Malvern Hills District Council stepped in to offer support, the plans gathered speed and funding of around £70,000 was found.

“The view in Lower Broadheath is that it’s a growing community – as a village it has two great pubs but not a lot to do for kids,” he said.

“The main stumbling block was finding some land, eventually they came up with this plot which is next to the allotments, but does need a slight change of use.

“Most people will think of it as recreational land already, there are bowling pitches on there, the scout’s hut was there years ago and people walk their dog there.

“The idea is to go ahead with it as soon as possible, the parish council has the people to build it – they’ve already built other pump tracks across Malvern Hills – they’re good to go, they're just waiting on this to go through.”

He said the parish council had consulted Broadheath Primary School and that he had carried out a survey asking residents what they wanted him to spend his divisional ward funding on, with many telling him ‘pump track’ before these plans were even put forward.

Some residents have objected to the track, citing concerns over anti-social behaviour and litter.
