A plan wanting to see the speed limit reduced on an A-road running through a Herefordshire village has moved forward.

The A44 through Bredenbury between Bromyard and Leominster is currently restricted to 40mph, but it's being proposed it should be cut further to 30mph on a stretch of over a kilometre through the village which goes past its primary school.

A ban on overtaking on the same part is also included, with Herefordshire Council now confirming it is consulting with authorities and the public on it.

According to draft minutes of Bredenbury Parish Council meeting of 29 July, if successful, the order “would also ensure road markings and speed limits were much more evident” through the village.

It confirmed back at its annual meeting in May the traffic order process “has been initiated”. which the meeting's chair, councillor John Hulse, called “an important step in hopefully seeing all the hard work by the council and the steering group coming to fruition”.

According to the July minutes though from the authority, “apparently there is a backlog in the procedure due to staffing issues.”

The consultation on it was launched on the 17 September, and runs until the 9 October.
