Approval is being sought on plans to add some key features to a new arts centre in Worcester which is aiming to open next year.

Construction work on the Scala development began back in January 2025, after planning approval for the regeneration project was officially granted in March 2024.

Since then, a series of smaller applications have been necessary to agree some of the finer details of the scheme.

It's now looking to get advertising consent that's needed to put up two illuminated signs bearing its name, as well as illuminated poster boxes at eye-level.

The planning application also includes the installation of a sign with movable letters used to display movie and show titles called a readograph.

It had originally planned to open this autumn, but an opening of summer 2027 is now being targeted by Worcester City Council.

Scala Worcester also recently confirmed it had received a £104,158 grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to help it deliver a initiative focusing on bringing together pieces of its history so future generations can see it.

It's launched its project titled Reel Memories: Scala Worcester – from Cinema Heritage to Digital Futures, which will run from this month up until May 2028, and will all build up to an immersive event in 2028.
