People across Herefordshire and Worcestershire urged to take care when heading out this weekend
An amber weather warning is now in place for snow and ice alongside a yellow, milder alert
People across Herefordshire and Worcestershire are being warned to plan ahead and prepare for tricky conditions on the roads with snow and ice forecast this weekend.
An amber weather warning and yellow alert are in place for both counties over the next couple of days, with temperatures set to stay low.
Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue service are reminding people to make sure they are staying safe if heading out.
Group commander David Swallow says it's important people listen to the advice and take extra care.
He said: "When temperatures drop below zero we'd expect it to get frosty and icy, so before heading out in your vehicles, make sure that they're fully defrosted before you set off and you can see clearly out of windscreens and your mirrors.
"It's about just being aware of your journey and whether you need to make that journey or not and where you don't, avoiding it if at all possible, but where you do, being prepared for that poor weather.
"That bit of extra space between you and the car in front, or just being prepared for the worst in terms of your journey in case something does happen and you can't make your full journey, those little bits of preparation should just help you avoid the worst."
Warnings are also in place for potential power cuts and travel disruption.
Worcester City Council and Herefordshire Council say support and emergency shelters will be in place for those homeless and rough sleeping throughout the cold weather.
