Pair of brothers from Worcester 'looking forward' to taking on two-man continuous relay across the UK
Alfie and Joe Pritchard will be setting off on the challenge later this month and aiming to complete it in eight days
A slightly different running challenge across over 800 miles of the UK lies ahead of two brothers from Worcester this month.
Siblings Joe and Alfie Pritchard are aiming to complete a continuous two-man relay, which will see them alternate between the one who is running, from John O'Groats in Scotland all the way down to Land's End in Cornwall.
Setting off on Monday 18 May, they're expecting to cover about 845 miles (1360km) in total on the journey and are fundraising for Help for Heroes through it.
They initially plan to finish it in eight days, 27-year-old Alfie said he's excited and they've been working on a strategy.
"The plan at the moment is just to do 2 hours on, 2 hours off, during the day, and then two four hour shifts from 10pm until 6am where we'll both do one of those each to hopefully get a bit of sleep," he said.
“Then we've got a whole crew, friends and family that are getting involved, which has been amazing.
“I'm really looking forward to it, the memories we make and not just for us but everyone else who gets involved is a special part of it so, I am looking forward to it, might be a different story on the night before, but for now I'm looking forward to it."
Ahead of it, the pair, who set-up business Mile Pie together, have also undergone a session of physiological and performance analysis at the University of Worcester, designed to help them to see how their bodies respond to different exercise intensities through things such as the VO2 max test.
In the past they've also taken on various other challenges, with Joe running for 24 hours on a treadmill and Alfie doing a triple ironman last year.
On the training aspect for this one, 24-year-old Joe said: “We're just trying to get in as many miles as we can really, but without getting injured.
"A lot of it as well is practising eating and fuelling because if you don't eat and fuel properly for events that are this long then you get into serious trouble."
The full breakdown of the route is expected to be announced by them shortly, with the idea being to go through towns and cities like Edinburgh, Manchester, Worcester and Bristol.
