Family pay tribute to teenager who died in Defford crash
Oscar Mason, 16, died after a car collided with a tree on the A4104
The family of a teenage boy who died in a collision earlier this month have paid a heartfelt tribute to him, describing him as the "amazing" eldest brother of the family.
Officers were called to the A4104 at Defford at around 9.20pm on Saturday 12th September, after a car collided with a tree off the carriageway.
A passenger in the car, since named as 16-year-old Oscar Mason, died at the scene, West Mercia Police said.
Two other passengers, aged 16 and 17, were also in the vehicle and suffered minor injuries.
An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.
He remains on police bail as the investigation continues.
Oscar's parents paid tribute to him, saying he "was truly the most amazing boy".
"He was smart, caring and always willing to help others," his parents said.
"His cheekiness and playful nature were what everybody knew him for. No matter what life threw at him, he always had a big, beautiful smile on his face," they said.
"With his quirky and curious personality, there was always a question for everything. You could rely on him to say it exactly how it is, and being unapologetically Oscar was simply who he was," his parents said.
"He was incredibly intelligent and talented, with the ability to succeed in any sport he tried. But it was judo that captured his heart," they said.
"He loved every minute of it and couldn't wait to come home and tell us about his lessons, competitions and the medals he was so proud to win," his parents said.
"As the eldest of six boys, Oscar's greatest achievement was being a big brother and wanting to lead them through life. Nothing brought him more happiness than his brothers," they said.
"He loved them fiercely, and they absolutely idolised him. Our hearts break knowing they have lost the best big brother they could ever have wished for," his parents said.
"Oscar made us parents and gave us all those precious childhood firsts. Those memories will stay with us forever," they said.
"We'll miss his mischievous giggle when he was up to no good, seeing his face appear through the glass door when he came home, the cuddles before bed, and the 'sweet dreams, sleep tight, I love you's'," his parents said.
"He will be remembered for his infectious energy, his love for life, and the happiness he brought to everyone around him. Forever sixteen, forever loved, our beautiful boy," they said.
