A guitar once owned by Noel Gallagher has sold for £12,000 at an auction in Worcestershire.

The Epiphone Supernova, finished in Manchester City's blue colours, was gifted by the former Oasis guitarist to Huw Richards, a former member of the band's stage crew, according to the auction listing.

It went under the hammer at Littleton Auctioneers in Middle Littleton.

According to the serial number, the guitar was made in May 1997, which the auction listing says places it among the earliest production examples of the Supernova model.

The listing states that Epiphone is believed to have supplied Noel Gallagher with five guitars in the same blue finish when the model launched, and that this instrument is understood to be one of those original five.

The guitar was inspected, tuned and played by Andy Bunn of AB Guitartech ahead of the sale, with a video of the demonstration included as part of the listing.

A tour jacket from the same collection was also sold at the auction, fetching £2,000.
