New Bishop of Worcester 'can't wait to get going' ahead of official start
Hugh Nelson will be installed as the 114th Bishop of Worcester today
A welcome service at Worcester Cathedral is set to take place today (17 January) to officially install the new 114th Bishop of Worcester.
Hugh Nelson, who beforehand had been the Bishop of St Germans in the Diocese of Truro, was elected to the position in September after having his appointment approved by the King in July.
He also served as the acting Bishop of Truro from September 2023 until May last year and is set to continue to act as the Bishop to the Armed Forces in his new role.
Bishop Nelson succeeds the Right Reverend John Inge following his retirement and will work across churches in Worcestershire along with parts of Dudley which form the diocese.
On taking up the role officially, Nelson said: "It's the greatest privilege of my life, the diocese of the church in Worcestershire and Dudley has been around for more than 1,000 years.
"I've never had a privilege like this to lead and to serve communities across an area and I can't wait now.
"My first kind of priority and the thing that I'll be spending most of my time doing is getting out and about into the towns and villages and cities of the diocese, getting to know clergy, our priests and the congregations of the churches and the communities that they serve."
The installation service is set to take place at 2pm.
