Ross-on-Wye Town Council will be installing blue plaques to celebrate important figures in the town’s history
Ross-on-Wye Town Council will be installing blue plaques to celebrate important figures in the town’s history.
The first of which will be for Dale “Buffin” Griffin and Pete Overend Watts, co-founders of the rock band, Mott the Hoople.
It'll be installed at the Hope and Anchor pub and restaurant, where the two played in 1963 in the local band "The Anchors".
In a statement, bosses at the local authority said: "The Town Council will be installing blue plaques in the town to commemorate figures of importance in the town’s history.
"The first of which will be a plaque for Ross born Dale “Buffin” Griffin and Pete Overend Watts, co-founders of the rock band, Mott the Hoople. Both attended John Kyrle High School, then known as Ross Grammar school.
"The plaque will be installed at the Hope and Anchor pub and restaurant, where the two played in 1963 in the local band “The Anchors”, and will be unveiled on the final day of Mottfest, a weekend long celebration of the band in Ross this October.
"This a continuation of the 1985-86 Mayor’s project, in which a number of blue plaques were erected across the Town Centre.
"These can be explored in the blue plaque trail, published on the Visit Ross-on-Wye website."
