This time of the year is really important for flower growers in the UK following the cold and wet winter months, the owner of a Herefordshire flower farm has said.

It's as today (15 March) marks Mother's Day which sees millions of flowers sold for the occasion.

Rozanne Delamore set-up the Ledbury Flower Farmer, which is based just outside the town, after returning to the county in 2020.

She's now in her sixth growing season after holding the first one in 2021, and said today's date is key for businesses like hers.

"Mother's Day is really important," she said.

"It kickstarts the season and it reminds people that we're here and the season is about to start.

"They then look at workshops through the year, they remember that we're here, and order their bouquet of flowers for birthdays or whatever occasion they've got coming up."

A recently published survey commissioned by the Fairtrade Foundation ahead of Mother’s Day revealed only 4% of UK adults that responded were aware most of the flowers sold at this time of year come from East Africa.
