More details about death of crew member in Leominster bin lorry crash

More details have been released about a bin lorry crash in Leominster that left a man dead.

The truck collided with a building on Mill Street at around 6.40am yesterday (Wednesday 11th November).

Brian Ashby, Head of Municipal Collections and Streetscene, said, "FCC Environment can confirm that a serious incident occurred at approximately 640am yesterday morning, 11th November 2025, in Leominster.

A Recycling Collection Vehicle collided with a residential building, Golden Lion House, on Bridge Street at the junction with Mill Street.

The emergency services were in attendance all day.

We can now sadly confirm that the incident has resulted in the death of one of our crew members along with what are believed to be serious but not life-threatening injuries to two other members of our team.

This is a deep shock for our team in Herefordshire and for our business as a whole, our focus now is on supporting all of those affected by this terrible event.

Our thoughts are with our three colleagues, their families and all the members of our crews in Herefordshire who we know are all impacted. We have taken immediate steps to ensure they are all supported at this time.

We are now working with the authorities to understand how this tragic event happened and we offer our full support to this end.

We would like to thank all of the emergency services for their swift response this morning and ongoing efforts.”

The man who died at the scene was a 62 year old passenger in the vehicle, a second passengers who's 47 and the river who's 50 remain in hospital in a stable condition, their injuries are not believed to the life-threatening.

The building that was struck by the lorry was empty at the time of the collision.

An investigation into the crash continues and West Mercia Police are appealing for any witnesses to what happened to come forward.

PC Paul Bosley from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said, "Firstly, our thoughts are with the friends and family of the man who passed away yesterday, as well as everyone else affected by the incident.

"We are continuing to ask people to avoid the area and the building itself as local authorities work to make it safe.

"We ask anyone who saw the bin lorry travelling along Mill Street before the collision, or witnessed the collision itself, to please get in touch with us.

"Relevant dashcam or CCTV footage could also help us in our investigation."
