A man is set to run the Manchester marathon today (Sunday 27 April) in memory of his brother-in-law and former University of Worcester student.

Daniel Player studied game art part-time over six years at the university so he could manage his health after he was born with scoliosis and restrictive lung disease.

He passed away last year, with his family collecting his degree certificate at the University’s spring graduation ceremony at Worcester Cathedral.

Nathan Beard says he's ready to take on the run and it'll be an emotional day.

"It's been mixed emotions at times through training," he said.

"I often think to myself on some of those longer runs or the runs that I don't feel like doing, I always sort of actually put myself back into probably what Dan was going through, in terms of his daily pain that he was going through.

"As things have progressed in the last year, this race has become much more poignant and I'll be wearing a t-shirt which has a picture of Dan on so he'll be with me throughout it."

Daniel's family have previously said they were aiming to put in place a degree completion prize in his name to create what they say would be a 'lasting legacy' that could support future students.
