Police are investigating after a man was seriously injured in a collision involving a stolen car in Worcestershire.

The collision happened shortly after 4am on this morning (December 18) on the A38, outside Webbs of Wychbold and involved a blue Volkswagon Golf.

Police say the vehicle had been reported stolen after car keys were taken in a burglary at an address in the Brickfields area of Worcester, shortly before the collision.

A 19-year-old man in the car was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Officers believe there was a second occupant in the car who remains missing and police are carrying out enquiries to locate them.

Sergeant Daniel Barker said: “We are concerned that the second occupant may also potentially be injured and we are keen to identify them as quickly as possible.

“Local communities can expect to see any increased police presence, with support from the national police air service (NPAS) as we continue our searches.”

West Mercia Police say a mandatory referral will be made to the Independent Office of Police Conduct, in relation to the police involvement with the vehicle following the burglary and prior to the collision.
