Man arrested over reports of drone flying over HMP Long Lartin

A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to convey prohibited items into a prison

West Mercia Police say a man has been arrested following reports of a drone being flown over HMP Long Lartin.

We're told it happened in the early hours of yesterday morning (Tuesday 22 July), with officers deployed to the scene at around 2.30 in the morning.

There, a black Audi was sighted which failed to stop.

The vehicle was located abandoned a short time later in the Ullington area.

Officers found a drone in the vehicle, along with suspected contraband and extensive searches were conducted for the occupants.

A man in his 20s was located nearby and arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to convey prohibited items into a prison. He remains in police custody.

Two further occupants are outstanding, and enquiries are ongoing to locate them.

Mobile phones were also recovered from the car which will be examined as part of the investigation.
