A man has been arrested for electric vehicle cable theft, after a police chase in Kidderminster.

A vehicle refused to stop on Wednesday night (11 June), promoting a stinger operation by police.

The driver fled the scene but the 18-year-old passanger was arrested on suspicion of theft of EV cables.

In a statement, West Mercia Police said: "A man has been arrested on suspicion of electric vehicle (EV) cable theft following a tactical pursuit by roads policing officers in Worcestershire.

"Acting on intelligence, Operational Policing Unit (OPU) officers followed a suspected stolen car at around 11pm on Wednesday (11 June) night in the Kidderminster area.

"The black Renault Megane failed to stop when indicated to and a pursuit was authorised.

"Just before 1am on Thursday morning, OPU deployed a stinger successfully, however the car attempted to continue at speed.

"Officers then used a box tactic to successfully bring the vehicle to a halt. One occupant, believed to be the driver, fled the scene, and an investigation has been launched to locate him.

"The other occupant, an 18-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of theft of EV cables in Worcestershire and has been bailed while enquiries continue.

"No-one was injured during the incident, and the black Renault has been seized as part of the investigation."
