A man has been arrested on suspicion of impersonating a police officer in Bromsgrove.

West Mercia Police said at around 8:30am last Saturday (11th April) a man knocked on the door of a property in Gilbert Road dressed in a police-style cap, fake beard, with a lanyard displaying an officer identification badge.

He asked to access the rear garden through the house, but the homeowner suspected he was not a genuine officer and refused entry.

The 60-year-old suspect has been arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary and impersonating a police officer.

He was also wanted on recall to prison.

PC Jackson said: “Impersonating a police officer is a serious offence and we understand this incident may cause concern.

“Genuine police officers will always be happy to verify their identity. If you are unsure, you can ask to see a warrant card and, if necessary, call 101 to confirm an officer’s details. In an emergency, always dial 999.

“If you have experienced a similar incident, please contact me."
