A man has been jailed after stealing a car during a late night burglary in Worcestershire.

Reiss Ali, of Pershore Road in Birmingham, pleaded guilty on Friday (5 December) to burglary and theft of a motor vehicle at Shrewsbury Crown Court.

During the hearing the court was told how in the late evening of August 26 of this year residents in Tenbury Wells were targeted by Ali.

The 24-year-old broke into a property on Castle Close causing damage to the patio doors. Once inside the property Ali located the keys to two Volkswagen cars, before fleeing the scene in one of the vehicles.

An investigation was launched by West Mercia Police, and Ali was identified as the suspect and arrested. He was later charged with the offences.

On Friday, Ali was given a three-year and four-month sentence for burglary and a 15-month sentence for theft of a motor vehicle, which is to run concurrently.

He was also given a driving ban for six years and eight months.

Detective Constable Jordan Small, from Shropshire's Serious Acquisitive Crime Team, said: "This type of crime has a deep and far-reaching impact on the community and it is not lost on officers investigating that the effects will be long lasting.

"The results of this investigation reiterate that police will fully investigate these offences and seek justice for those impacted. Those seeking to cause harm in Shropshire will be hunted and placed before the courts to answer for their actions."
