The Malvern Hills Trust has said it's really exciting to see one of the locations it covers and maintains shortlisted to be crowned the winner of a national competition.

Running across the Herefordshire-Worcestershire border, Pinnacle Hill path has been nominated for the Britain's Favourite Path 2026 prize, which has been set-up by walking charity the Ramblers and the Postcode Lottery.

It's the third time the award is being handed out, with a section of the South West Coast Path between Bude and Westward Ho! last year's winner.

CEO of the Malvern Hills Trust, Deborah Fox, said it was great news as they work hard to maintain the route and the entire 1,200 hectares they cover.

"I'm very proud that somebody would want to nominate Pinnacle Hill path as one of the best paths in Britain," she said.

"For a path like this to look its best, we primarily do vegetation clearance, grazing management and also improve the access.

"The trust works to prevent the path from becoming overgrown, we ensure a safe and multi-use passage for walkers and cyclists as well as horse riders, and we do regular winter conservation work which is often aided by our wonderful volunteers and mountain biking groups."

In total, eight have been put forward, with the Buttermere Circular in Cumbria and the Strawberry Line in Somerset two of the other names included.

Each have been nominated for the difference it's made in someone's life, with Bristol's Lauren Mundy the person behind Pinnacle Hill's entry.

On what makes the area so special, Fox said: "It's great to just see all the different hills with all their wonderful shapes and features.

"Once you get to the top of the hills like with Pinnacle Hill, you get these spectacular views."

The winner is to be announced in August.
